Common Search Techniques

Project Insight search capabilities follow closely with other database search functions. If you are unfamiliar with these shortcuts, this cheat sheet can come in handy:

Include words in your search

Put spaces or "and" or "&" between words to search these terms together. For example, client & brochure

One term in a list of many

Put "or" or "|" between words to see results for any of the terms. For example, yellow or green

Exclude words from your search

Put "not" or "!" in front of a word you want to leave out. For example, purple not .pdf

Search for an exact match

Put a word or phrase inside quotes. For example, "client project"

Search for a "starts with" condition

Put a * at the end of your word to only search the prefix. For example, 0335*

Search for groups of terms

Put (parenthesis) around terms to combine search techniques. For example, (cat dog) | fish equals ("cat" and "dog") or "fish"

Search for terms near each other

Put "near" or "~" between terms to look for terms close to each other. For example, best ~ client
